What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son, but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?

Courage The Cowardly Hero

What is courage?  We grow up learning and teaching what courage is.  In many ways we see courage as merely black and white; you either are or you are not.  We teach our children to have courage when facing the dark of their room.  We grow learning the epitome of courage.  What do you think of when you hear or read the word courage?  Is there someone who jumps to mind and do your consider yourself courageous?

Many of us see particular individuals as courageous and yet somehow we do not view ourselves in that same light; a soldier, police officer, fireman, etc.  I see that these people are courageous, but they are also doing a job.  Do you think of a mother as courageous? How about a teacher? Or even perhaps a child?

Courage by definition is the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.  So how is it that we tend to paint personifications upon certain individuals who have “courage?”  Are we not all completely capable of being courageous? Of course we are.  In fact, I would be willing to bet that fear is taught more than courage.  Children do not know not to touch the hot burner on the stove unless we tell them to fear it.

Courage is subjective.  We see someone as brave when they react in a manner for which we ourselves see as such.  My definition is based on my life experience, what I have been taught, and what I have witnessed and been told is brave.  What I see is not what you see.  Courage is merely a subjective emotion that by definition changes as we grow and mature.

Courage is objective.  When we are at that lowest low, courage becomes an objective.  We do not cry when someone hurts our feelings, we do not strike back when hit, and we do not defend our honor at all cost because we are being brave, strong, and courageous.  Oddly enough, all of these things have somehow been taught to us as signs of weakness.

We are hypocritical as a society to expect people to fight/stand for something they believe in and at the same time, see them as strong when they are silent and do nothing.  How can someone be a strong silent person?  We are wise enough to know that sometimes silence is more powerful than defending in words or otherwise; and yet, we manage to look down on those who just “take it” as weak.

I see courage as something you posses because you know that God is with you.  When facing the darkest places in life, the lowest low, the tunnel without a light, etc. we find out how courageous we are capable of being.  We will generally surprise ourselves at how capable we are of being courageous, brave, gutsy, tough, dauntless, heroic, nervy, etc.  We have to understand that silence is golden and you can be strong without the societal views of strength, honor, and bravery.  The honor we posses is the honor God gives to us.  There is a time for war, but it should be a war of love.  How do we do this? We must submit to God’s will and understand that He will give us all the courage we need to be the cowardly heroes that the world needs.

At this point in life...

There is a moment in life when you just realize that bitterness, resentment, and anger are not going to control you.  Mine came about 5 years ago on a fall day while looking out the window in my kitchen.  I remember the breeze blowing the already turned leaves with gusts that made the window whistle.  Something just spoke to me and said, be thankful for the life you've been given and accept that God has given you an opportunity to be something far greater than you can ever be alone, bitter, and full of resentment.  It was in that moment I accepted my life story as a blessing and not a mark of failure, shame, or negativity.  God allowed me to survive it all and I must find a purpose for that.

Most would not ever understand the situations life has handed me and could not even begin to empathize.  I realized a long time ago that no matter how many people tell you that they understand what you're going through, they simply cannot be expected to.   I was uniquely formed and there is no one like me anywhere; therefore, only I can allow confusion, unanswered questions, anger, resentment, etc. to continue to lead my life. No one can understand this because they have not lived my life nor I theirs.   It was in that single moment that I realized I could not wait for anyone to apologize, explain, or offer apologies; I had to forgive it all now, no questions asked just as God always forgives me.

So it began, the mind-bending task of not only forgiving all who I harbored resentment for, but also asking God to do his will not mine.  This is certainly something each of us must do no matter how impossible it seems.  Bitterness and resentment only suck the life out of everything that can or will be good in your life.  It is time to make the decision.  Are you ready?

The following information will serve as my account of the events in my life.  I do not pretend to know that everything is accurate, but God knows the truth and he will be the judge of all.  I will share candidly the “life story” of a little girl who never seemed to have a home or somewhere to fit in until she asked God to do his will. Life is more than any of us can ever imagine and sometimes just knowing what others have conquered gives us strength to step forward and ask for help from someone who will never forsake us.  May you be blessed by what I share and may it give you strength or conviction in your own life.

People come into your life...

Are you a reason, a season, or a lifetime?

People come into your life for a REASON, a SEASON, or a LIFETIME...

When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person. When someone is in your life for a REASON:  it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

Then people come into your life for a SEASON:  because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons: things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Just food for thought...

Isn't it funny how the silliest things make you think of God and what being a Christian is all about? That's what Christ is all about. ♥ ~L-O-V-E~ ♥

He loved us before we were even born and will love us no matter what. He loves you SO much that He willingly gave his life for you. How many loved ones love you that much?

I am thankful for many blessings, but mostly for God who isn't a fare weather friend! He's there when we can't see him through the confusion, loves us so much that He was willing to give His one & only son, Jesus; & He even offers to carry us when we can't carry ourselves. His son gave His life for you, me, & the entire... world! We did not have to ask, God knew we needed it. ♥ GOD IS ALWAYS THERE ♥
